A Journey into the World of Electricity: An Unforgettable Experience in Germany

Students from ORT Braude College recently embarked on a transformative journey to Münster, Germany, immersing themselves in the dynamic and innovative field of electrical engineering.

Over two weeks, 10 students from ORT Braude College of Engineering in Karmiel, along with their lecturer, participated in a specialized program hosted by HANDWERKSKAMMER BILDUNGSZENTRUM (HBZ), one of Germany’s premier vocational colleges. This groundbreaking initiative marked the first time ORT Braude’s engineering students ventured abroad for hands-on studies.

The program featured intensive workshops in HBZ’s state-of-the-art laboratories. Participants explored advanced topics such as alternating current, three-phase systems, IT installations, renewable energy technologies, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. A standout moment was the practical application of designing and implementing electrical systems for residential buildings, using cutting-edge German standards and technology. These immersive sessions provided the students with invaluable skills, enhancing their theoretical knowledge and fostering their professional growth as future engineers.

Beyond the labs, the program included enriching field visits. At Elektro Heikes, the group observed electrical installations at a hospital construction site, gaining insight into the installation of a network cabinet crucial for the facility’s IT systems. Another highlight was a visit to Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology (MEET), a leading battery research center, where students explored cutting-edge advancements in energy storage. The experience was further enriched with a tour of the H. Gautzsch Group, providing an in-depth understanding of wholesale electricity processes.

The mission extended beyond academics. Participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of Münster, forging connections between Israeli and German communities. This cultural exchange underscored the significance of global collaboration in education and industry.

The program culminated in a certificate ceremony, celebrating the successful completion of this transformative experience. Gratitude is extended to HBZ College’s director, Katharina Semmler, for her exceptional hospitality and guidance throughout the mission.

Special thanks go to Dr. Korem Siegel, Principal of ORT Braude College, for championing this initiative, and to Alona Kletsel, Head of International Business Development and Marketing, for her instrumental role in organizing it. Their combined efforts created a unique platform for students to gain international exposure and valuable industry insights.

Finally, heartfelt appreciation is extended to the team of North Rhine-Westphalia Office in Israel for their invaluable support in making this journey possible.

And last but not least, thanks to Luda Golod, an ORT Braude College student, for providing a compelling overview of this remarkable visit, as captured in this article.
