Towards the end of the 2019-20 school year, around a thousand junior-high students from Ort Israel Network schools attended a series of virtual conferences on the topic of entrepreneurship. The guest of honor in this programme, organized by the Ort Network’s R&D and Training Center, was Professor Dan Shechtman, Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry.
During the three conferences, held through UNICO system due to COVID-19 restrictions, the students were introduced to Professor Shechtman and his achievements. At the first conference, dedicated to preparation and introduction, Mr. Ami Steiner gave the students an account of Professor Shechtman’s life: where he grew up, what and where he studied, and the discovery for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize.
In addition, Mr. Steiner introduced the students to some basic concepts and background related to the subject of entrepreneurship. The students’ second conference hosted Professor Shechtman himself, who told the students about the importance and significance of entrepreneurship, gave some examples, and answered their questions. At the third conference, Mr. Steiner quizzed the students with questions recapping the first two conferences, related to Professor Shechtman’s story and to the topic of entrepreneurship.
