Pupils majoring in digital information sourcing and location at ORT Lod create  entries in WIKIDATA

Pupils majoring in digital information sourcing and location in the ORT Lod Leadership and Science Campus, led the first pilot experiment of its kind among pupils in the digital information sourcing and location programs in Israeli high-schools, where they created and constructed fields and entries in WIKIDATA.

Despite the Corona, the pupils led a learning and research process, choosing topics approved by Dr. Keren Shatzman of the Wikimedia Israel Association, who instructed the project’s teachers. Each of the pupils added about 30 entries, performed sites’ evaluation, created a new item and a new page in the wiki database. The project was presented from the pupils’ personal websites, which they had set up throughout the year and where they independently managed their learning in the program throughout the year.

Efrat Shalom, the school’s principal, says: “our pupils today are tomorrow’s analysts. They are learning and experiencing the use of digital and technological platforms, while at the same time developing life skills and capabilities as they experience public speaking and presentation. In their reflections, the pupils have shown how much the work on the project contributed to their self-belief, strengthened and enhanced their perception of their capabilities and of their ability to face difficulties and to turn them into opportunities for growth, along with exemplifying solidarity and friendship in  helping each other, in order to achieve the success of all of the program’s pupils! Many thanks to the program’s teaching team- Edna Tam, Zvi Bengos and Reut Levy-Ezry, for the experiential learning that is adapted to the 21st century, for instructing and guiding the pupils throughout the year, and towards the presentation of the mini projects in particular. Thanks for the instruction by the chief inspector of the program for digital information sourcing and location, Ms. Ronit Nehemiah and by Dr. Keren Shatzman of the Wikimedia Israel Association.
