International Educational Diplomacy – Bridging Costa Rica and Israel.

In ORT, we believe that in today’s interconnected world, education should know no borders. As part of our international outreach during January, we hosted Mrs. Dyana Cordero from the embassy of Costa Rica and her colleagues in ORT Ebin, one of ORT’s leading schools strongly focused on science, technology, arts, and community engagement. This visit was an exploration of possibilities, a meeting of minds, and a step towards building international educational bridges.

ORT Ebin High School – A Beacon of Excellence

With a focus on robotics, cybersecurity, cinema, 3D design, and even female football, the school has consistently raised the bar for achievement. The school has secured top positions in national competitions in the above mentioned fields, showcasing its prowess not only in science and technology but also in arts and sports.

Embracing Innovation

ORT Ebin embraces cutting-edge technologies like virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI) in education. Teachers have lessons about implementation of AI in education methodologies and students actively engage with these technologies in their studies. Sponsored courses by Nvidia allow them to implement AI in development of the software applications, they code VR environments such as chemistry lab, or upgraded version of the actual city park and even work on development of a sensory glove that will provide a feeling while they touch objects in the VR realms. This forward-thinking approach prepares students for the future, where these technologies will undoubtedly play a crucial role.

Community Engagement

Beyond academic excellence, ORT Ebin is deeply committed to its community in Israel and international outreach. The school’s initiatives, such as mentoring Holocaust survivors in technological skills, exemplify its dedication to using technology for social good. The children visit the Holocaust survivors and guide them in using computer and smartphone applications to help them with their daily tasks, such as scheduling appointments in the medical clinic, paying bills, or communicating with friends and family on social media channels. In addition, the school’s virtual activities with German schools and student exchange programs demonstrate its international vision.

Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders

ORT Ebin is focused on shaping future leaders. The school’s focus on promoting gender equality, guiding girls to be involved in science and technology, and guiding all school students’ choice of significant service in prestigious technological army units, and collaborating with the high-tech industry underscores its commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals ready to take on the challenges of tomorrow. Prestigious army units and high-tech companies such as Rafael and others are strongly involved in technological projects in the school, with senior engineers serving as mentors and guides for the children in their exploration of the engineering and robotics realms.

A Vision for the Future

The visit by Mrs. Dyana Cordero and her colleagues marks the beginning of a promising dialogue between ORT Israel education network and Costa Rica. The potential for mutual growth and learning is immense.

During their visit, Mrs. Dyana Cordero and her colleagues were escorted by Mr. Rotem Letzer, the school principal, and Ms. Alona Kletsel (Allesh), the head of international business development and marketing at ORT. Rotem provided insights into the school’s innovative programs and collaborations with the high-tech industry. The delegation also had the opportunity to visit the Spanish class, where students engaged in discussions with Mrs. Dyana Cordero, fostering cultural exchange and language learning.

One of the highlights of the visit was the meeting with Dana, the chair of the students’ committee. During the visit, the delegation met Dana and her peers in the BioTech lab while they were in the middle of an experiment. ORT Ebin offers an extended education program in the field of BioTech, which includes an ongoing and fruitful collaboration with the Israeli Volcani Institute. Dana shared insights into the school’s experiment in collaboration with the Volcani Institute, which involves the genetic coding of vegetables to develop varieties that can withstand hot climates, addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
